Complaint Against Officer

The Whitewright Police Department is committed to providing highest professional service to all persons. The Whitewright Police Department does not tolerate any misconduct or wrongdoing by any of its personnel. If you believe that you have been subjected to misconduct of any type by a police officer, you are encouraged to report the incident to the Whitewright Police Department.

The Whitewright Police Department recognizes the importance of protecting its employees from false allegations of misconduct. The Chief of Police, is responsible for conducting Internal Affairs Investigations will investigate incidents of alleged misconduct or violations of the police department’s policies and procedures. The department will not formally investigate the validity of a traffic citation. All traffic citations should be disputed with the municipal court.

How to File a Complaint

A complaint may be filed in-person, by mail, email, or fax; however, pursuant to the Texas Government Code 614.022 complaints must be in writing and signed by the person making the complaint. Texas Government Code 614.023 allows a copy of the complaint will be given to the officer.  The complaint form is available on the City of Whitewright web site, or can be picked up from the Whitewright Police Department or City Hall both located at 206 W. Grand Street.  The complainant form will need to be Notarized prior to submission. Regardless of the method of filing a complaint, the original signature complaint will need to be either mailed or dropped off at city hall.

In Person:

  • Complaints may be filed in person Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the Whitewright Police Department, 206 W Grand Street, Whitewright, Texas 75491
  • Complete and sign a written statement and Notarized (if applicable)

By Mail:

  • Sign and date the complaint and notarized
  • Mail the form to: Whitewright Police Department, Attn: Chief of Police, PO Box 966, Whitewright, Texas 75491

  • Sign, date and notarize the complaint and notarized.
  • Fax the complaint to: (903) 364-3001 Attention: Chief Robles

Regardless of the method of complaint, please include the following:

  • Details of the incident
  • The date, time, and location of the incident
  • The officer’s name, badge number, and/or description
  • Any witness’ name and phone number
  • License numbers for any vehicles involved in the incident
  •  Any other information you feel is important to be included

False Complaints

Filing a false complaint against a police department employee may be a violation of the Texas Penal Code, Section 37.02. If a person knowingly and intentionally makes a false statement under oath, or swears to the truth of a false statement previously made under oath, he/she may be found guilty and punished by a fine up to $4,000, be confined in jail for up to one year, or both.
